The partnership is keen to work with the local community to avoid collision hotspots being created, which is why we carry out speed surveys at all locations brought to our attention.

If results show that there is a genuine speeding problem in the area, we will begin a graded response to the issue which initially involves deploying speed indicator devices on several occasions at different times of the day. These flash up drivers' speed but do not issue any tickets. If this does not have a positive effect on driver behaviour, mobile cameras will then be deployed.

There has to be three fatal or serious injury collisions for a new fixed site and one for a new mobile site. However, the partnership is allowed to spend 15% of deployment time at sites of genuine public concern where there is a speeding problem in order to avoid that location becoming a collision hotspot in the future.

If you are concerned about speeding in your area, please contact your local authority or local police Area command, clearly stating exactly where you feel drivers are exceeding the speed limit.
