Road Respect Roadshows
If you have been involved in or witnessed a car accident, then we want to hear from you. Putting your experiences into words could help someone else who may potentially face a similar situation in the future. Please read what people have to say about dealing with the consequences of disrespectful driving - you may think twice about taking that phone call when you're behind the wheel.
One of my friends that Ive known since I was 2 (Im 19 now) died in a car crash on 6th November 2007. Her boyfriend was going about 60mph and swerved and crashed into a tree. She is the only passenger out of the 4 that died. The two back passengers are ok but my friend and her boyfriend had to be cut out by the fire brigade. He is ok as well but my friend died in hospital less than 2 hours later. All her friends and family are devastated. She would have still been alive if her boyfriend hadnt of been driving so fast in the dark. She had only just turned 18.

Mine is more a view than a story hope this is okay. I had to attend the Speed Awareness Course recently after being flashed doing 34 in a 30 mile zone. On the day of the course, myself and about 20 others moaned and groaned at the injustice of having to do this. However, at the end of the course, there appeared to be a quiet respect and total turnaround of peoples views. The facts put to us of the effects of driving even 4 miles over the speed limit were devastating. I am a 36 year old female driver with a 17 year old driving daughter. I have bored her to eternity with the knowledge and awareness I gained on that course. I strongly believe that the course should be compulsory for all new drivers, whatever their age, and as an experienced driver I would be prepared to do this as a refresher every couple of years. Thanks
Lisa
No Particular story, but please ask people to not do 30mph then hitting the brakes at 3 inches from the junction!

i,m a 20 year old female, who USED to have a Peugeot 206. back in February 2007 i bought a brand new 56 plate 206 LOOK. id part exchanged my old car for 3000 and took out a further 5500 on finance over 5 years. August 2007 i had my car with me when i went to see some friends. We started drinking, at about 12 that night i was drunk and wanted to get home. i asked a male friend to drive me home as i knew i was over the limit. He agreed and we also agreed to take home a further 2 friends. As we were driving home a male friend actually took another road down throught the country lanes. I knew in my heart what was to happen next, i screamed and screamed for him to slow down but he just did not listen. on a hair pin bend he lost control of the car which then hit an enbankment and flipped over and rolled down the hill. all i could remember was the sound of mud, stones and the smell of grass as the car rolled. i must of then passed out as i can not remember the car landing back on its wheels, i was a passenger in the back.
When i re awoken the driver told me to get out the car asap and to get onto the road. he told me not to turn round and look at the car. there were 4 in the car not one of us had a scratch. i managed to get out the car and up onto the road. i took one look at my car and screamed. All in all the crash was not as bad as it could of been, i am lucky to be here talking about it. The worst thing about this is a was not insured. my insurance had ran out 2 weeks before the accident and i thought i could save a few bob by not paying. BIG mistake. i now have a 7500 legal bill for the car i have lost my drivers licence, and i face prosecution as i cant afford the bills. lets not forget the farmer who wants 500 to mend his fence. all in all a stupid mistake nearly cost me my life.
As for the driver of the car was a friend is now no longer. i have no way of getting into contact with him i have been told he has left the area.

i have very nearly lost 3 of my friends in road accidents and my brother got seriosly injured after getting knocked off his motorbike SLOW DOWN whats the rush speed kills and im a great beliver in that nothing is worth dieing or killing for im nt saying im a perfect driver but what i am saying is i stick to the speed limits give extra time for your journeys if the speed sign says 30mph then dont do 31 32 33 34 35mph because its 30 those extra mphs can be the difference between life and death! so please slow down and make the nations roads a safer place for you and for me

The Road Respect Show Is A Great Way To Show That Driving Is Very Dangerous, And No Matter What The Situation Is, You Shouldnt Be Using A Mobile Phone When Driving! Or When Women Look In Their Mirror And Do Their Lipstick! It Just Makes Me Sick That Many Young Children Are Dying On The Roads Everyday All Because Of Someone Thinking Its Very Important To Talk To Someone Or Reapply Their Lippy! Surely That Can Wait!

Last week I received a Notice of Intended Prosecution because I was driving over the 30mph temporary speed limit approaching the road works on the Coast Road. I felt absolute shock and disgust at myself when the letter landed on my door mat. I have never been stopped for speeding before... and I just thought it would never ever happen to me. I have realised no-one is immune to speed limits! I am even more embarrassed and upset with myself because my youngest daughter was in the car with me... Now I am so much more aware of road furniture and temporary road signs - just because you drive up and down a stretch of road all the time doesnt mean something cant change on it!!! Complacancy... I used to go into my own bubble in my car, almost thinking it isnt reality. I would never have known about the roadrespect site if I hadnt checked my offence online. So worthwhile... fantastic design... well done.
