Q88. For the purpose of the legal system (i.e. 'totting up'), the DVLA states that points stay on your licence for three years, but they remain for a total of four years for insurance purposes.

Please note that when getting insurance quotes, the company may ask for details of any offences over a longer period than four years.

You have to inform your insurance company of any points received as soon as is reasonably practical, as failing to do so can make your insurance invalid.
